At least 16 alleged members of local terrorist groups Dawlah Islamiyah-Hassan Group (DI-HG) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) have surrendered to authorities in Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Lt. Col. Al Victor Burkley, commander of the 6th Infantry Battalion (6IB), said the 16 individuals also turned over their firearms, including rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, and pistols.

They were presented before 601st Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Edgar Catu, in a ceremony that aimed to convince other terrorists to return to the folds of the law.

Local officials extended financial assistance and sacks of rice to those who surrendered as part of the reintegration process.

Catu commended the 16 individuals for turning over a new leaf and embrace peace.

6ID and Joint Task Force Central Commander, Major General Jose Vladimir Cagara, said the surrender is a proof that armed struggle and the use of violence against the government do not bring real change but suffering and destruction for their families and communities.

Cagara added that the 6ID and JTFC will continue to implement programs for peace and security to ensure that those who have returned are given enough support and opportunities to start a new and peaceful life.
