A 19-year-old man turned himself in to authorities and reportedly admitted that he was involved in the killing of two security guards of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

According to the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office, the suspect, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Naga town, was accompanied by his family when he surrendered to the Ipil Municipal Police Station on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Police said the suspect’s statements were made in the presence of his legal counsel and subscribed before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.

Authorities assured the public that investigation will continue and that all leads are being assessed to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the killing.

“This voluntary surrender is a testament to the trust and cooperation between our law enforcement and the community,” Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office Director, Col. Barnard Danie Dasugo, said.

It can be recalled that the two security guards were found dead inside the BIR building on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The victims, 41 and 52 years old, were both residents of the province and were on night duty when the incident happened.

Investigators said one of the victims had at least five gunshot wounds in the face, chin, and chest while the other sustained three gunshot wounds in the head.

Police believe the guards had been shot hours before they were discovered.

“Nung naabutan po ng personnel ng BIR, patay na yung dalawa, medyo dry na ang dugo,” Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Lt. Gina Magnaye, said.
