A businessman in Liloan, Cebu who rescued a man from raging floodwater during Typhoon Tino’s onslaught fell victim to theft perpetrated reportedly by the man he saved.
Intense flooding almost reached the second floor of a house in a subdivision in Liloan, vehicles were already swept away. The house was owned by Deo Francis Vistal, a businessman.
Raging floodwater destroyed the store his family owns.
A tenant of their property was also swept away by the strong current and was on the verge of drowning. Vistal narrated that without a doubt, he swam toward the tenant to rescue him.
When the floodwater receded, Vistal said his family tried to scavenge belongings that could still be of use. He added that he went to Cebu City to relocate his family temporarily while their business in Liloan is on a halt. But upon his return to his store, the products he had scavenged were all gone.
According to witnesses, the tenant he rescued took away the store items. The tenant is nowhere to be found.
The victim said he did not file any complaint at the police station, as he has forgiven the tenant already. He said had the man only asked for help, he would have assisted him further.
He pointed out his family is safe from the deluge which makes material losses of lesser concern to him now. He is hopeful that with Divine Providence, he would be able to recover swiftly from the catastrophe.
Furthermore, Vistal was able to save another neighbor who was trapped in a vehicle during the massive flooding on November 4, 2025.
