Police arrested a 43-year-old man after he allegedly tried to bribe officers manning a checkpoint in Barangay Caquilingan, Cordon, Isabela on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Police said a ten-wheel truck first parked a short distance from the checkpoint. A man got off, approached the duty officer, and allegedly offered ₱20,000 to let their truck pass without inspection. The officer refused, prompting the man to return to the vehicle.

Minutes later, the same truck attempted to go through the checkpoint. Officers stopped it for inspection.

The driver declared that the truck was carrying corn. But during inspection, police found layers of rice hull, corn and plastic bottles only meant to hide 8,000 board feet of narra, valued at ₱4 million.

Both the truck driver and the man who allegedly attempted to bribe the police will face criminal charges. They have not issued any statement.

PMAJ Sharon Mallilin, spokesperson of PRO-2, said the suspects violated forestry laws on top of the bribery attempt.

“So ito po is paglabag sa P.D. 105 o ang ating Revised Forestry Code, at ‘yung panunuhol nila is bribery po,” she said.
