Colorful Christmas lanterns are lighting up the roads again in Barangay Caranglaan, Dagupan City after vendors spent days repairing decorations damaged by Super Typhoon #UwanPH.

Some parols were soaked or torn apart during the storm, forcing sellers to fix them before returning to their stalls.

“‘Yung ibang mga parol, nabasa. ‘Yung iba, nasira. Kami na rin ang gumagawa para mabenta. Mayroon din kaming mga materyales po na gagawa,” Bernard Arcelona, a parol vendor, said.

With the holiday rush approaching, Bernard said prices have already increased. Lanterns now sell for ₱1,500 to ₱7,000 each, depending on size and materials used. He added that suppliers have also raised their prices.

Still, he does not plan to increase prices further in December, noting that many families are still trying to manage tight budgets.

“Kahit na inaano namin ‘yung budget nung mamimili para lang magkaroon ng parol,” he said.

Sales remain slow for now, but vendors expect demand to pick up in the coming weeks as Christmas draws near.

The Bureau of Fire Protection reminded buyers and sellers to observe safety when using decorative lights to prevent fires.

Authorities also warned against octopus connections and advised the public not to leave Christmas lights plugged in overnight, especially when no one is home.
