A tricycle driver died after his vehicle crashed into a steel post and fell into an irrigation canal in Barangay Bakod Bayan, Cabanatuan City.

Police said the driver, 48, was on his way to a health center for a check-up with his wife, their two children, and two neighbors with their kids when the accident happened.

While they were traveling, the tricycle hit a steel post beside the irrigation canal. All eight passengers, including the driver, were thrown off and fell into the canal.

Investigators said the driver may have suffered an epileptic attack, which caused him to lose control of the tricycle.

Responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection–Nueva Ecija Special Rescue Force Bakod Bayan Sub-Station rushed to the area and took the injured passengers to the hospital.

The driver was found dead in the irrigation canal.

The family and police have yet to issue a statement about the incident.
