A fire broke out at the laboratory of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) in Dumaguete City.

The fire occurred past 7 p.m. on November 18, 2025 at the laboratory near the Out-Patient and Pediatrics Departments of NOPH.

Patients were evacuated to safety immediately.

According to Governor Manuel (Chaco) Sagarbarria, the fire was controlled immediately and did not spread any further.

In a video taken by Cherry RS Streng, individuals were seen using a ladder to evacuate children-patients from the second floor.

The initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) rendered that the fire started at the Molecular Laboratory of NOPH.

In another video uploaded by Angelica Babor, patients were seen already outside of the NOPH compound.

The hospital management has not issued a statement yet, as of this writing.

Fire investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Sagarbarria inspected the situation at the affected site.

“Because of this, we will have to re-assess all the wirings here in the provincial hospital to make sure this will not happen again. Swerte kaayo ta karon nga it’s just the old part of the hospital which is magabii walay tawo because it's the laboratory, problema lang ugma wala tay laboratory,” Sagarbarria said.

The governor pointed out that because the building is old, where the laboratory is situated, it has no sprinkler system.

According to the Local Government Unit, the NOPH was constructed in 1945, or is already 80 years old.
