A 16-year-old student in Iloilo City has owned up to spreading a bomb threat message out of boredom.

The Fort San Pedro National High School declared a suspension of classes on November 19, 2025 following a bomb threat received by a teacher evening on November 18. The message was sent to the teacher by a female student, but the person who spread the bomb threat message is her 16-year-old classmate.

The 16-year-old student was accompanied by his grandmother to the police station on November 21, 2025.

“Ang sagot niya sa Women and Children Protection Desk, na-bored lang daw siya,” Captain Melchor Tolentino, chief of the Iloilo City Police Station 1, said.

The student admitted he edited the message that contained a bomb threat, and sent it to their group chat, but said he immediately deleted the message.

However, a member of the group chat took a screenshot of the message.

Despite the incident, his teacher said she knows the student differently.

“Mabuti siyang bata. Hindi naman siya rascal o pilyo na bata,” said Famela Tan, Grade 10 council adviser at Fort San Pedro National High School.

The student grew up with his grandmother.

GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas went to the grandmother's residence, but no one is at home.

The news team sought a comment from an official of the barangay who said the student is a good boy. “Mabait siya. Nandito siya palagi sa aming barangay, naglalaro ng volleyball,” Barangay Councilwoman Glo said.

As of this writing, the police and the City Social Welfare and Development Office are studying on filing a complaint against the student. Police said it is possible he is not involved with the other bomb threats in Iloilo City, Iloilo Province, and other areas in Western Visayas.

However, he will be investigated for a possible group that sabotaged the series of bomb threats.

"Ma-establish through facts at strong and convincing evidence na siya talaga. Kasi baka ginamit lang siya at baka biktima lang siya ng sirkumstansya,” said Major Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of Iloilo City Police Office.

The student was released while investigation is ongoing. He and his grandmother underwent a case conference.

To recall, the Iloilo City Government and the Iloilo Provincial Government dangled a P200,000 reward to individuals who can provide accurate information on the identity of the bomb threat sender, or possible group of perpetrators.
