Three snakes and a large eel were disturbed during work on a flood control project in Barangay Sicalao, Lasam, Cagayan.
Workers using an excavator hit two snakes and one eel while digging near the Alibot Falls area.
One snake died after being struck by the excavator bucket. Volunteers from Biodiversity Watch rescued the two remaining snakes, which were unharmed.
Authorities said the two live snakes will be released to a safe, remote area to prevent them from falling into pits and to ensure their survival. The eel, weighing over 10 kilos, was caught and reportedly made into food.
