Five personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology are being investigated for possible involvement in the sneaking in of contraband at the Negros Occidental District Jail in Bago City.

Earlier, BJMP received reports on contraband inside the facility.

Reports were confirmed to be true in a Greyhound operation on November 20, 2025, as a cellphone and three sachets of suspected shabu were recovered.

“We validated through Greyhound operation. There was an iPhone, pieces of sachets containing crystalline substance,” said Jail Insp. Rei John Luntok, assistant jail warden of Negros Occidental District Jail Male Dormitory.

"There might be collaboration. There might be aid coming from personnel. Nag-issue na ng (notice) of explanation ang jail warden ng Negros Occidental Jail Dormitory sa kanyang mga tao to explain,” said JSInsp. Juniven Rey Umadhay, spokesperson of BJMP-Negros Island Region.

Police officials are also investigating on the possibility that visitors of inmates may have sneaked in the contraband.

“Sa gate mismo, through the visitors. Kung maaalala natin, a firearm was thrown inside the jail through the perimeter wall. Smart phones are very dangerous, they can be used as a form of platform to communicate and transact outside the jail," Umadhay added.

Inspection on visitors are tightened, following the incident.

To recall, in August 2025, the sneaking in of cellphones and contraband was investigated when the inmates staged a noise barrage on alleged irregularities in facility policies.
