Prices of rice at the Bankerohan Public Market in Davao City have gone up by P4.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the price of a 25-kilogram sack of local and important rice has increased by around P100, which affected the retail prices (per kilo).
Several rice retailers said the price of a 25-kilogram sack of imported rice is now P1,250 from P1,150, while local rice now costs P950 per sack from P850 per sack.
Because of this, the price of imported rice at the retail level ranges from P48 to P54 per kilo, while local rice is sold between P39 and P45 per kilo, depending on the variety and origin.
The increase in rice prices is reportedly attributed to the ongoing rice importation ban and the completion of the local harvest season.
