The Northern Davao Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORDECO) has condemned several activities of the Davao Light and Power Co. (Davao Light) in Davao del Norte, including meter reading and billing.

NORDECO maintained that it remains the legitimate electric distribution utility in Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro.

This after learning that Davao Light has been conducting meter reading, posting billing, and planning to establish collection and customer service points in Samal Island and Kapalong in Davao del Norte.

NORDECO said there is still a pending case before the Supreme Court involving their petition against Republic Act 12144, the law that expands Davao Lights franchise area in the two provinces.

For its part, Davao Light said it respects the opinion of NORDECO but maintained that its actions are in accordance with the law, including the mandated two-year transition period.

“I understand that there are cases have been filed in the supreme court but you know without any ruling or any actions from the court the law is regular meaning it’s in effect and we are just complying with the law,” Davao Light Head, Engr. Enriczar Tia, said.

NORDECO also questioned the bidding activities conducted by Davao Light.

However, Davao Light said that all projects must undergo a bidding process as required by Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

“All projects needs to be bid out that’s why we are bidding a lot of activities and this is in compliance with the transition plan when we implement we have to select several suppliers,” Tia added.

Tia also said that Davao Light expressed hope that NORDECO would cooperate and talk with them.
