A college dean accused of being involved in the killing of two barangay officials in Maguindanao del Sur was arrested in Datu Piang town. 

According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the suspect, 33, was arrested by virtue of a warrant for two counts of murder. 

CIDG said the suspect was tagged as the number eight most wanted person in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

CIDG added that the suspect and 21 other co-accused allegedly perpetrated an explosion targeting a group of barangay officials on August 16, 2023.

Authorities said that based on reports, the victims were walking along a trail in an uninhabited farmland in Barangay Ganta, Sharif Saydona when an explosion occurred, which resulted in the death of a barangay chairman and a barangay councilman and the wounding of eight others.

CIDG said the school official is the third accused to be captured following the arrest of a barangay chairman on November 5, 2025 and a municipal councilor on October 11, 2025.

“He is the 3rd of 22 accused. With his arrest, we have helped the victims and their families attain the justice they deserve. Maraming salamat sa inyo,” CIDG Director, Major General Robert Morico II, said.
