An overcast sky prevails over Bacolod city and other areas in Negros Occidental beginning in the morning of Monday, November 24, 2025.

Intermittent rain has also been experienced in the city under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 brought about by Tropical Depression Verbena.

The Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) conducted a pre-disaster risk assessment on November 24. The Negros Occidental Provincial DRRMO has strengthened its preparations as well.

“Ang ating low pressure, nag-develop into tropical depression. Pumasok ito kaninang umaga. Ang storm signal number including talaga ang buong Negros. Malakas ang ulan na dala nito,” said weather forecaster Dave Cuajao of PDRRMO.

The PDRRMO has coordinated with local government units (LGUs) for stringent monitoring of residents living in coastal and flood-prone areas.

“Pati mga ilog, magbantay tayo sa pagtaas ng tubig at pagguho ng lupa,” Cuajao added.

The provincial government has already ordered a preemptive evacuation.

At least 23 LGUs temporarily suspended face-to-face classes in Negros Occidental, according to the Department of Education Negros Island Region (DepEd NIR).

“We want to ensure that learning continues pa rin. Naka-send out rin tayo ng modules sa ating kabataan,” Almyr Caezar Dequina, spokesperson of DepEd NIR, said.

Sea trips were also suspended for all types of vessels in northern Negros Occidental.

Based on data from the Philippine Coast Guard, over 100 rolling cargoes and over 200 individuals are stranded at various ports, including Bredco Port in Bacolod City, as of this writing.
