Authorities in Dagupan City discovered various chemicals and materials used for making firecrackers inside an abandoned hut in Sitio Boquig, Bacayao Norte.

Police said they found the items during an inspection of the small shanty, but no individuals were present when the team arrived.

“Nakita sa area ‘yung mga chemicals, and dahil shanty lang ‘yung lugar, wala kaming naabutan doon. Inaalam natin kung sino ang may-ari,” PLTCOL. Roderick Gonzales, public information officer of the Dagupan City Police Office (DCPO), said.

The police urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities, noting that community cooperation has been crucial in locating illegal firecracker workshops.

DCPO personnel are now coordinating with barangay officials to intensify monitoring in different parts of the city.

Residents echoed the call for strict enforcement, worried about the risks of explosions and fires.

“Dapat talaga hulihin mga gumagawa, kasi kawawa maging biktima, tapos masunugan pa,” Riosie Casaclang, a resident, said.

Police also filed charges last week against the operator of another illegal firecracker workshop in Barangay Tebeng, which exploded on November 16, 2025.

The case was filed under RA 7183, the law regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.

“Last week pa natin na i-file ang kaso laban doon sa operator,” Gonzales added.

Authorities continue to warn the public about the dangers of illegal firecracker production as the city braces for the holiday season.
