Local government units in the Province of Negros Oriental, especially on the path of Tropical Depression Verbena, brace for possible effects as the weather disturbance is expected to cross the Visayas on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Classes in the elementary and high school levels in Guihulngan City and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental have been suspended.
Face-to-face classes have been cancelled in Bindoy town as well.
According to the Guihulngan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), suspension of classes is possible in all levels on Tuesday, November 25, in view of TD Verbena crossing the Visayas regions.
In PAGASA’s forecast track, Guihulngan City and Canlaon City are possibly on the path of TD Verbena.
Preemptive evacuation of nearly 300 families living in coastal barangays and at the riverside is set.
To recall, Guihulngan City and Canlaon City were hit severely when Typhoon Tino unleashed its fury on November 4, 2025 in the Visayas.
In the latest data of the Provincial DRRMO, at least 22 were confirmed dead in Canlaon City due to Typhoon Tino. At least 42 were injured, while three individuals are still missing.
“Karon ga-Blue Alert amoa ra diri sa OpCen, ready na pud mi sa preemptive evacuation nga mag-start mi karong hapon,” according to Engr. Juvanni Enabe of CDRRMO Guihulngan.
Trips of all sea vessels in Negros Island Region were suspended, following DOST-PAGASA advisory on the possible effects of TD Verbena which made landfall in Bayabas, Surigao del Sur afternoon on Monday, November 24, 2025.
The suspension is based on PAGASA advisory that placed areas in Negros Island Region under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Negros Island Region advised that no ship or any marine vessels are allowed to leave the Dumaguete Port on November 24.
The cancellation includes trips from Dumaguete to Siquijor.
The PCG has also prohibited fishermen from venturing out at sea to avoid any untoward incident.
