A 23-year-old rider died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into an electric post on Mabuhay Road in Barangay San Isidro, General Santos City.

Police said the rider was heading home from meeting friends when he possibly dozed off, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and crash into the electric post.

“Galing siya sa kanyang mga friends going home at it could be na naantok siya nakaidlip siya yun na nag-swerve siya outside his lane hitting yung post ng SOCOTECO,” Traffic Enforcement Unit-GenSan Chief, Lt. Col. Patrich Elma, said.

Family members have already claimed the rider’s body.

Police added that the rider was not wearing a helmet at that time.

Authorities reminded the public anew about the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009 (RA 10054), which is being implemented strictly in the city.

“When you drive ng motorcycle kailangan nakahelmet tayo hindi lang po yung ordinary helmet kundi yung standard helmet approved by the DTI meron pa yang ICC Mark at PS Mark,” Elma added.
