A senior citizen in La Libertad, Negros Oriental was swept away by floodwater brought about by Tropical Depression Verbena.

The man has remained missing, as of this writing.

The 61-year-old man was swept away by the swift flow while he was traversing a spillway in Barangay Pacuan afternoon on November 24, 2025.

His daughter, Jonalyn Binondo Canoy, took a video of her father earlier. The incident was not captured, but Canoy is heard shouting as she witnessed her father being swept away by floodwater.

Residents tried to help the man, but failed. Barangay rescuers assisted in the search for the senior citizen morning on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

In Canoy’s video, her father was seen wearing a helmet while crossing the spillway. There were other persons who crossed the spillway also. Suddenly, her father was swept away.

Canoy hopes that her father would be found alive.

Meanwhile, according to the Negros Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, face-to-face classes remained suspended on November 25, 2025, based on an order of Governor Manuel (Chaco) Sagarbarria.

Government work in the province remained suspended as well on November 25, except work involving essential services.
