A 50-year-old mother is keen on filing charges against a barangay tanod (village watchman) for the r@pe of her 28-year-old daughter.

The r@pe incident happened in Barangay San Pedro, Molo, Iloilo City dawn on November 18, 2025 against an intellectually deficient person. 

According to the mother, alias “Fe,” they were at the wake of a relative in the chapel of the barangay hall. She said she was with her husband and daughter with special needs.

She said she saw the suspect among alleged bettors of a gambling game at the wake. At past 12 a.m., she and her husband could not find their daughter.

The barangay tanod was also not around at about the same time their daughter could not be found.

After about an hour, their daughter returned, her feet encrusted with mud. The barangay tanod also appeared, which made alias “Fe” suspicious.

As soon as they reached home, her daughter told her of the incident, she added.

The victim said that the incident took place inside the comfort room of the old barangay hall.

“Bagong paligo, bakit nang nakita ko siya, marami siyang putik. Sabi ko anong nangyari sa ‘yo? Tapos yumuko siya. Pagpasok ng suspek, nakita ko sa mukha ng anak ko na kinabahan siya, parang namulto siya,” the mother narrated.

At about 11 a.m. on the same day, both parties were summoned to the barangay. The suspect owned up reportedly to r@ping the differently abled woman under the influence of alcohol. 

“Dala ng kalasingan niya, nagawa niya yun. Sabi niya kay Kap [barangay chairman], bigla na lang pumasok sa isipan niya ang bata. (Kung) sa pagsisisi, matindi ang pagsisisi niya kasi umiiyak siya habang humihingi ng tawad sa nanay,” Barangay San Pedro Councilman Nonoy Jaranilla said.

Following the incident, the barangay tanod was dismissed from the service immediately.

“Nagulat rin ako kasi ang iyong tanod, nakagawa ng ganyan na parang mabait namang tao ‘yan. Nagpupuyat yan upang may mapakain sa kanyang mga anak,” said Lyric Alapar, tanod commander.

The mother said she is bent on pressing charges against the barangay tanod. “Tulad ng sinabi mo na mahal mo ako kasi magkababata tayo, pero bakit ganun? Hindi ka naawa sa anak ko. Pasensyahan na lang tayo,” alias “Fe” said further.

As of this writing, the suspect was not arrested yet.

“Dahil hinihintay pa ang medico-legal (examination result), kaya hindi siya na-hold. Nandito lang naman siya sa barangay,” Jaranilla added.

Further, police pointed out that the report was filed past the 24-hour period which hindered them from arresting the suspect.
