Families affected by Tropical Depression Verbena in Western Visayas swelled to over 11,000 or over 30,000 individuals.
According to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6, the weather disturbance brought intense flooding, especially in the Province of Capiz.
At least 5,000 families in the region evacuated, while 85 houses were destroyed.
"In fact, these people na right now inside the evacuation center, they are the same people na nag-evacuate sa Typhoon Tino and [Super] Typhoon Uwan," Atty. Melissa Banias, OCD 6 officer in charge, said.
Landslides were also reported, but none was reported injured in the incidents.
“Immediately, nagde-deploy rin ang ating road clearing team. Some of the areas na-clear na, some of the areas, on-going pa ang clearing,” Banias added.
In Iloilo City, floodwater in 19 of 34 barangays has already receded. Evacuees have returned to their respective residences.
“Mga alas-7 (a.m.) at alas-8 (a.m.) kasi ang tubig nag-subside mga alas-3 (a.m.) or alas-4 (a.m.). Wala na ring ulan,” said Felipe Salvalosa, councilwoman of Barangay Calubihan, Jaro.
Residents have also started the cleanup.
“Unti-unti na akong gumagawa ng kanal para dumaloy ang tubig,” according to Nieva Paciete, a resident.
Operations of sea voyages in Iloilo, Guimaras, and Capiz have resumed.
