A P2 million reward has been offered for information that may lead to the identity and arrest of the gunman and the mastermind behind the killing of a barangay chairman in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

Vice President Sara Duterte committed P1 million as reward for those who could provide information about the killing of Barangay Tres de Mayo chairman, Oscar Bucol, Jr., according to the family’s legal counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon.

“May authorization ako galing kay VP Sara na i-reveal sa publiko na nag-commit siya ng 1 million peso para matukoy po kung sino ang mastermind sa pagpatay ni Kap. Dodong Bucol,” Torreon said.

Davao del Sur Governor Yvonne Cagas also offered P500,000 for information that can lead to the gunman and another P500,000 for information that can lead to the mastermind.

“Maghatag diay ko og reward, maghatag ko og P500,000 para sa gunman or gunmen and P500,000 para sa mastermind o masterminds,” Cagas said.

He was seen on video talking to a man inside his home who had reportedly returned a lost-and-found wallet. However, minutes later, multiple gunshots were heard.

Bucol was then seen on video bleeding and walking while calling for help.

His companions rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

According to the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office, Bucol sustained a gunshot wound in the chest.

The Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) said a special investigation task group has been formed to investigate the incident.

“We have already created Special Investigation Task Group composed by the members of the Provincial Staff ng ating PPO,” PRO-11 Director, Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, said.

Prior to the attack, Bucol was criticizing some personalities in the video.

Police have identified persons of interest, based on the personalities identified by Bucol in his previous social media posts.

The man who was last seen speaking with Bucol after surrendering a wallet denied any involvement in the shooting.

"Akong katuyuan didto, niadto ko didto, kato lang gyud wallet gi-endorse kay Kapitan,” the man who turned over the wallet, Silvestre Derecho, said.

Investigators are looking into personal grudge as possible motive.

According to the barangay’s chief tanod, Bucol already received death threats prior to the incident.
