The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) recorded seven cases of leptospirosis in November 2025 and anticipates a possible spike because of flooding incidents triggered by recent weather disturbances.
“Kung na-expose ka sa baha even for one time lang, the best gid you go to your doctor and ask for prescription,” Dr. Grace Tan, head of the Environment Sanitation Division of Bacolod CHO.
A few residents used rubber boots to protect themselves while wading in floodwater.
However, Josephine Antoniano, a resident who does not have protective gears, said she is already used to wade through floodwater. She said she could not help from wading in floodwater as there are important things to do such as buying essentials.
She said she is already used to the flooding in Barangay 12.
“Hindi naman kasi maiwasan. Lalabas ka talaga,” Antoniano said.
Antoniano added she is aware that she is highly susceptible to leptospirosis.
