A barangay captain in Masantol, Pampanga was shot dead by unidentified assailants shortly after attending the mayor’s birthday celebration.

Police identified the victim as Jinqui “Buboy” Quiambao, chairman of Barangay Balibago. According to investigators, Quiambao left the municipal hall after the event and was on his way home when he was ambushed on Tuesday, November 24, 2025.

“Pumunta sila sa birthday ni Mayor. Inimbitahan sila sa munisipyo at nung pabalik na sila mga around 1:30 iyon, pabalik na sila sa kanilang mga respective barangays. Pagbaba niya sa Barangay Alauli, pagbaba niya sa sasakyan na lilipat na sana siya sa sasakyan niya… doon na siya pinagbabaril. Declared dead on arrival pagdating sa ospital,” PCol. Eugene Marcelo, director of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office, said.

Police recovered evidence from the crime scene and are coordinating with stations nearby to track the suspects down. They have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.

Quiambao’s family said they cannot understand why the barangay chairman was targeted.

“Hindi po namin ma-imagine na nangyari iyon at hindi niya po deserve ang krimen na ito kasi napakabuti niya pong tao, napakabuti po niyang nanunungkulan,” Rina Quiambao Atienza, his sister, said.

Authorities noted that since 2022, six barangay captains in Pampanga have already been killed in shootings.
