At least 21 police officers, including the former chief of Digos City Police Station in Digos City, Davao del Sur who was relieved from his post following the killing of Barangay Tres de Mayo chairman Oscar Bucol Jr., were subjected to paraffin tests.
According to the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office, former Digos City Police Station chief, Lt. Col. Glenn Ipong, is among the possible persons of interest who may have a hand in the killing of Bucol. Other possible persons of interest include individuals previously mentioned by Bucol in his social media posts.
Police said Ipong and Bucol were seen arguing in Bucol’s Facebook video several weeks ago.
Ipong and 20 other police officers were subjected to paraffin tests.
“Pati ‘yung lahat ng intel operatives at tsaka ‘yung security escort niya pati ‘yung driver niya. So, all in all 21 silang lahat na nag-undergo ng paraffin test,” Davao del Sur PPO Director, Col. Leo Ajero, said.
Ipong was relieved to ensure an impartial and unhampered investigation. He was reassigned to the Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit.
“Upon hearing that report, immediately I ordered the administrative relief of Chief of Police. This is to give way to the fair, just, and an impartial investigation sa insidente. I have reassigned him to the Regional PHAU,” Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-10) Director, Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, said.
Bucol was shot dead while he was live on Facebook evening on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
He was seen on video talking to a man inside his home who had reportedly returned a lost-and-found wallet. Minutes later, multiple gunshots were heard.
Bucol was then seen on video bleeding and walking while calling for help. His companions rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
CCTV footage showed a red getaway vehicle entering the subdivision where Bucol lived around 9:16 p.m. The vehicle turned toward the second corner leading to Bucol’s residence. Around two minutes later, the vehicle was seen speeding out of the subdivision through the first corner. It was during this time that Bucol was shot by someone inside the vehicle.
PRO-11 confirmed that the vehicle caught on CCTV was the one used by the suspects. Based on initial investigation, three people were on board the vehicle during the attack.
A special investigation task group (SITG) has already been formed to conduct an investigation, However, Bucol’s family, through their lawyer, has requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to lead the probe.
“This is based on the request of the wife and ‘yung mga kapatid po. Pwede rin siguro na inter-agency ‘yung investigation but we would like the NBI to take the lead in the investigation of the crime,” Atty. Israelito Torreon, legal counsel of the Bucol family, said.
Bucol’s remains now lie at his parents’ home in Barangay Tres de Mayo.
“Dili gyud mi muundang hangtod dili makuha ang hustisya para kay Kapitan Bucol,” Davao del Sur Governor Yvonne Cagas said.
The reward offered for information that may lead to the identity and arrest of the gunman and the mastermind behind the killing is now P4 million – P1 million from Vice President Sara Duterte, P1 million each from Cagas and Davao Occidental Congressman Claude Bautista, and P1 million from Bucol’s father.
