A tribal leader who worked as a government-employed forest ranger was shot dead while on duty at his post in Barangay Cogonon, New Bataan, Davao de Oro on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
According to the New Bataan Municipal Police Station, the victim was 59 years old.
Based on investigation, an unidentified gunman approached him and shot him in different parts of his body.
Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the assailant and determine the motive.
Police urged those who have knowledge about the incident to come forward and coordinate with authorities.
Davao de Oro Governor Raul Mabanglo condemned the incident, saying such acts of violence has no place in the province.
“Akong gikasubo nga nawad-an kita og usa ka higala nga sukad pa sa una nanilbihan alang sa iyang tribu ug sa ikaayo sa probinsya,” Mabanglo said.
Mabanglo said the provincial government is prepared to assist in any way necessary to ensure that justice is served for the victim and to support the grieving family.
