The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament aims to finalize and enact the districting law by December 2025, as it is required for the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections scheduled for March 30, 2026.
In a statement, the Parliament’s spokesperson, MP Atty. John Anthony Lim, said efforts are ongoing to complete the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) districting law before the year 2025 ends and ensure a fair, inclusive, and legally compliant process.
Lim said the BTA Parliament has been working with diligence, transparency, and broad public participation to enact the districting law.
He said at least six districting bills have been referred to the appropriate committees for study and consolidation.
Lim added that the first public consultation was conducted in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on November 6, 2025. The next consultation is scheduled on December 4, 2025 for the Special Geographic Areas (SGA), Maguindanao del Sur, and Basilan.
The public consultation in Maguindanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Cotabato City is set on December 7, 2025.
“Alongside this major task, the Parliament is diligently deliberating the proposed BARMM Budget Bill for 2026 to ensure the continued delivery of essential programs and services. Managing both the districting measure and the regional budget reflects our commitment to responsible governance and uninterrupted public service,” Lim said.
Lim urged the public to participate actively in the consultations and share constructive feedback.
“Together, we can build a fair and representative parliamentary districting system that reflects the voices and aspirations of the Bangsamoro people,” he added.
The BTA Parliament also acknowledged the efforts of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in preparing for the elections, after the polls set originally for October 13, 2025, was postponed due to the Supreme Court ruling declaring the districting laws, Bangsamoro Autonomy Acts 58 and 77, unconstitutional.
COMELEC said the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) will be held from January 5 to 9, 2026, while the election period will run from January 29 until April 14, 2026.
The campaign period will also start from February 12 to March 28, 2026.
“That is in response kasi under the Supreme Court decision, kailangan we will have the election not later than March 31, 2026,” COMELEC-BARMM Director, Atty. Ray Sumalipao, said earlier.
