A bridge that links Kalinga to Mountain Province collapsed after days of strong rain, forcing authorities to close the road and set up temporary crossings for residents.
The Makilo Bridge in Barangay Bugnay, Tinglayan gave way due to damage from recent storms and continuous rainfall, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).
The bridge serves as an important route between Kalinga and Bontoc in Mountain Province. Because of the collapse, vehicles can no longer pass through the area. A temporary footbridge has been set up so residents can still cross safely.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it will also build a temporary bridge for vehicles. The agency expects to finish the structure within December 2025.
Authorities continue to remind motorists to avoid the area until repairs are completed.
