Dagupan City has started deploying traffic enforcers at night as authorities move to reduce road accidents, stop noisy motorcycle mufflers, and tighten enforcement of traffic rules during late hours.
The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) said it now operates round-the-clock with teams assigned both in the morning and evening to monitor streets and respond to violations.
POSO Chief Arvin Decano said nighttime incidents pushed them to add a dedicated night shift.
“Every night kasi, ‘yan ang problema natin. Maraming cases sa gabi, pati muffler marami din. Kaya naisipan na kailangan hanggang gabi may naka-duty na,” he said.
About 70 percent of POSO personnel remain on daytime duty, while 30 percent now cover the night shift. Police also join POSO enforcers during night rounds to ensure safety during riskier hours.
“Kasi minsan sa gabi may mga lasing, may mga dala ng itak. At least may kasamang pulis ang mga enforcer natin,” Decano added.
Motorists and residents welcomed the expansion, saying it helps keep the streets safer for everyone.
“Mas okey para rin sa safety namin,” Mary Bona, a motorist, said.
Blessy Gonzales, a resident, agreed, noting that many drivers tend to ignore rules at night.
“Mas maganda kasi siyempre may nakabantay sa gabi, kasi kapag gabi madalas mga driver hindi na sumusunod sa batas-trapiko,” she said.
Authorities said they will further increase the visibility of POSO enforcers and police across the city, especially this Christmas season when road activity is high.
