A taxi driver and his son-in-law, a nurse at a public hospital, were arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City evening on Monday, December 1, 2025.
Authorities said the 45-year-old taxi driver was tagged as the number 10 target in the illegal drug trade in the city. His 35-year-old son-in-law worked as a nurse at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC).
Seized from the suspects were sachets of suspected shabu worth nearly P400,000.
“Nagbaligya kini sila og maong illegal drugs nga kantidad og 1,000 pesos and sa ila usab sa maong pagpamaligya nakuhaan pud ni sila og duha ka sachet sa maong illegal nga droga nga shabu nga nagkantidad og 374,000 pesos,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
The suspects claimed that their customers were their neighbors, an allegation the police are now verifying.
Police believe that the taxi driver may have used his job to facilitate illegal drug activities.
Authorities also expressed concern that one of the suspects works as a nurse, which they say poses a risk to the patients under his care.
“Dinhi nato makita nga ang atong campaign against illegal drugs is a whole of nation approach, dako nga butang nga ang atong workplace is drug free,” Navarro added.
The suspects are now detained and will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165).
