A 74-year-old man was stabbed to death by his 27-year-old grandson inside their house in Barangay 9A, Davao City.

The suspect stabbed the victim around 5 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025. The victim sustained stab wounds in the chest and neck.

The suspect was occupying a room behind the victim’s house.

According to the suspect’s sister, who also lives in the same house, she and her partner were awakened by a loud noise before they realized what was happening. They reportedly heard her grandfather asking for help.

The family members said the suspect had repeatedly threatened the victim in the past.

They also disclosed that that the suspect has a mental health condition and has been in and out of a mental health facility.

Despite their grief, the family has decided not to file charges against the suspect due to his mental condition.

“Wala nalang mi mo-file og kaso kay naa man pud syay deperensya sa utak. Amo nalang giampo nga mahiluna pud akong papa,” the victim’s son, alias Joey, said.

“Naka-decide sila mga instead nga mo-file sila og kaso, ederecho nalang didto sa mental hospital kining maong suspek,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Capt. Hazel Caballero Tuazon, said.
