A concerned passenger on board a fastcraft bound for Cebu City reported to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ormoc City that the vessel was experiencing heavy smoke which also alarmed other passengers.
According to a post of the City Government of Ormoc, the fastcraft departed from the Port of Ormoc at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
"Upon receiving the information, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office - Water Search and Rescue (CDRRMO-WASAR) immediately deployed the rescue boat LUCY. The rescue boat was dispatched within 8 [eight] minutes of notification from the station to the sea, and reached the Supercat, which was nearing Cawit, Camotes, in 19 minutes, demonstrating exceptional efficiency," the post reads.
"Upon reaching, the CDRRMO established communication with the fastcraft to provide support and assistance. At the request of the vessel’s captain, the team aboard LUCY escorted the Supercat safely back to the port of Ormoc, ensuring secure docking and the safety of all passengers and crew," it added.
"The swift and professional response of the CDRRMO - WASAR team exemplifies outstanding readiness, coordination, and dedication to public safety. Their rapid deployment mitigated potential risks, prevented escalation of the incident, and ensured the safe return of the fastcraft. The LGU commends the CDRRMO-WASAR team and the capabilities of LUCY for their exemplary service in this operation," the post reads further.
