The Department of Health (DOH) Central Visayas will implement Code White, or heightened alert, beginning December 16, 2025 in preparation for the holidays.
The Code White alert ensures the preparedness of all hospitals, private and public, including rural health units from December 16, 2025 to January 4, 2026 to respond to holiday-related health concerns, such as accidents.
Precaution inspires the launch of the “BYAHEalthy" campaign on travel safety.
During the holiday season, parties abound which makes alcohol intake inevitable. Following merriment during the occasion, DOH 7 reminds drivers to avoid driving under the influence and to always ensure the condition of vehicles prior to traveling.
According to Dr. Shelbay Blanco, head of the Health Emergency Management Services of DOH 7, that from December 21, 2024 to January 6, 2025, at least 166 holiday-related accidents were recorded at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
DOH 7 has urged the public to avoid firecrackers in celebrating Christmas and New Year.
DOH 7 logged a total of 135 cases of firecracker-related incidents during Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025, which is said to be 50-percent higher compared to incidents recorded in December 2023 and January 2024.
Two death incidents were recorded in January 2025, the agency added.
In addition, the public is also reminded of other holiday-related health issues, such as Acute Coronary Syndrome.
The condition is among ailments that the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHILHEALTH) has prepared for, as it is expected that members would claim benefits, according to Dr. Reginald Mangubat, head of PHILHEALTH 7’s Benefits Administration Section.
The condition involves hypertension, spike in blood sugar, and increased cholesterol level.
Thus, DOH 7 advises moderation in intake of food and alcohol during the holidays to ensure physical fitness, and celebrating Christmas safely, as well as in welcoming the New Year.
