Fire worth over P11 million broke out in four separate areas in Western Visayas and Negros Island Region.
A fire gutted three houses and damaged partially another five in Barangay Sto. Niño Norte, Arevalo, Iloilo City past 3 p.m. on December 2, 2025.
Within 10 minutes, the fire struck a total of eight houses.
The fire started at the house of one Anthony Fermindoza. There was reportedly no one inside the house when the fire hit.
“May apoy pa. Sa akin naman, lugmok na talaga. May mga bombero na pumasok pa para maapula ang sunog,” Fermindoza said.
The fire also struck the house of Fermindoza’s son, including that of his brother, Jovan.
“Umusok lang siya, tapos parang umapoy na. Konti pa lang, sinikap namin na maapula nunit hindi kinaya. Hanggang sa lumaki na kasi hindi kami makapasok. Sarado ang bahay, nakakandado,” Jovan said.
Damage reached P40,000, based on the assessment made by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The cause of the fire is yet being investigated, as of this writing.
“Nag-lift kami doon ng ashes and debris for chemical anilysis. As well as kumuha kami ng electrical wires to determine whether may short circuit or any relation sa electrical,” said SFO1 Denmark Macoco, chief of the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of BFP Iloilo City.
In Bacolod City, a commercial building was partially damaged in a fire that hit the ground floor of an establishment.
A few residents of Barangay Handumanan found out about the fire past 4 a.m. on December 3, 2025.
“Naamoy ko ang usok, parang may nasusunog. Natakot ako,” Elvera Panhilason, a resident, said.
The BFP responded immediately.
“Nakita namin mismo may temporary outlet na ginamit. Doon posibleng nagmula ang sunog,” according to FO2 Rolin Paulan, fire investigator from Bacolod City BFP.
Damage reached over P1 milion.
Further, a speedboat of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Caluya in Antique was gutted off the Caluya Port on December 2, 2025.
According to the Caluya Fire Station, the speedboat was from Buruanga, Aklan that ferried the mayor and a few employees of the Tourism Office bound for Semirara. However, when the passengers were already off the vessel, the speedboat caught fire.
A crew member sustained first-degree burns, but is already out of danger along with other crew members and the boat skipper.
The fire left behind damages approximately P10 million.
“Sabi ni mayor, lesson learned lang ito. Babawi raw dahil plano nilang mag-purchase ng bagong (speedboat),” according to SFO1 Gil Fillaro III, head of the Intelligence and Investigation Section of BFP-Caluya.
In Roxas City, a fire hit a portion of a college building on December 2. The school suspended classes immediately. Firefighting took about an hour before it was placed under control.
Investigation is ongoing, as of this writing.
