Six personnel of the PNP-CIDG were removed from their posts and now face charges for allegedly stealing millions of pesos in cash evidence seized from a POGO hub in Bagac, Bataan in 2024.
The alleged theft came to light after a court ordered the PNP-CIDG to return the money kept in their custody while the case was being heard.
Authorities said the team was supposed to return ₱141 million to the company but when the box was opened, only ₱128 million remained.
The missing ₱13 million also turned out to be ‘budol’ or fake money.
Investigators said the officers involved allegedly divided the missing cash among themselves.
The assistant ground commander and the evidence custodian in the operation denied the allegation and insisted that all funds were accounted for.
Efforts are ongoing to get the statements of the five other personnel linked to the case.
