The Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) of Cagayan de Oro City is planning to auction off hundreds of impounded motorcycles and other vehicles as its impounding areas have reached full capacity.
RTA spokesperson, James Andrade, said more than 1,000 vehicles are currently stored in the city’s two impounding areas.
Motorcycles, pedicabs, and food carts can be seen stacked on top of each while other vehicles were overgrown with grasses at the impounding area in Barangay Kauswagan.
Andrade said owners who are no longer interested to claim their impounded vehicles may execute an affidavit waiving their rights to the property.
“Gani kung naay intention ang tag-iya nga dili na niya lukaton pwde siya mo-submit sa iyang affidavit nga ideklara niya nga i-waive niya iyang rights pwde pud na siya kay in case ug naa na ta’y auction puhon dali ra ang pag proseso niini,” Andrade said.
At present, RTA charges a towing fee of P500 and a daily storage of P100 for motorcycles and P300 for other four-wheeled vehicles.
RTA is also considering reintroducing the city’s amnesty program, where owners could reclaim their impounded vehicles for a fixed rate of P3,000 regardless of how long they have been stored. However, this proposal will need an ordinance from the City Council.
“Open kaayo ang buhatan sa RTA sa pag-cater sa mga gapanag-iya nga kaniadto pa na-impound, andam ta motabang sa ilang sa issues nila kay usa sa problema ani medyo mahal na pero atong sigurohon nga masulbad as soon as possible time,” Andrade added.
RTA is urging vehicle owners who no longer intend to retrieve their units to coordinate with them so the proper documents for disposal can be processed.
