Large groups of migratory birds have been visiting farms in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, creating a unique sight for farmers who say the birds often stay close as they work.

Farmers said the birds, described as gentle and calm, usually appear in the early morning and late afternoon. Many of them can be seen splashing in the water in the rice fields.

The Provincial Veterinary Office identified the birds as white egrets. The office said the egrets are searching for food such as snails, which helps farmers by reducing pests in the fields.

Officials explained that the birds move from one place to another, making it hard to track their exact origin. They added that the cooler weather has brought more migratory birds to different areas.

Residents were advised not to catch the visiting birds.
