Dagupan City is gearing up for a busier holiday season as authorities brace for heavier traffic along major roads, especially the often congested A.B. Fernandez Avenue.

The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) said it has already deployed more personnel and adjusted schedules to keep vehicles moving in the coming weeks.

POSO enforcers have increased visibility along A.B. Fernandez Avenue, Arellano Street, and M.H. Del Pilar Street, where traffic usually builds up during the holidays.

At least 15 enforcers handle the morning to afternoon shift, as of this writing, with additional personnel joining from late morning until evening.

Dagupan City Deputy POSO Chief Rexon De Vera said they are ready to adjust deployment times depending on road conditions.

“Pag nakita natin hanggang gabi is mahaba pa ‘yung traffic buildup sa kalsada, i-adjust natin ‘yung oras ng idadagdag natin na habaan hanggang matapos ang traffic build-up sa ABF,” he said.

POSO expects a 30 percent increase in vehicle volume entering the city this Christmas season. As part of traffic management, the traffic light at the A.B. Fernandez–Rizal Street junction has been disabled temporarily to prevent vehicle buildup.

Police are also assisting POSO teams on the ground. Apart from managing congestion, authorities will monitor tricycle drivers who may overcharge passengers during the peak travel period.

Randy Sareno, a tricycle driver, said safety remains his priority amid the expected traffic slowdown.

“Pag-ingatan ang pagda-drive. Alalay na lang sa pagmamaneho,” he said.

De Vera reminded commuters and motorists to practice patience and discipline during the busy season.

“Sa mga commuter at motorista, habaan natin ang pasensiya at nandito kami lagi upang umalalay sa kaayusan ng traffic sa Dagupan,” he said.
