A 28-year-old man who had just been released from prison for a drug-related case was shot dead in Barangay Igpit, Opol, Misamis Oriental evening on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Authorities identified the victim as Jomarie Patrick Rabanes.

According to the victim’s mother, her son was standing outside their house when the gunman approached him and shot him in the chest.

The suspect fled on board a motorcycle.

Police recovered three empty shells of caliber .380 pistol from the crime scene.

During hot pursuit, authorities recovered a motorcycle allegedly abandoned by the suspect at a grassy area in Barangay Barra.

Upon inspection, the motorcycle was found to have a tampered engine and chassis numbers, which made it difficult for investigators to identify the registered owner.

Authorities are looking into illegal drugs as possible motive, noting that the victim, who was imprisoned for drug charges, was released from jail only recently.

Police have started reviewing footages from CCTV cameras in the area.
