A yacht on anchorage in the waters of Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City caught fire because reportedly of a lithium battery.

The Lapu-Lapu City Fire District received a report of a yacht on fire at 11:52 a.m. on December 4, 2025 in Sitio Marbeach.

The fire was placed under control at 12:53 p.m. A fire-out was declared by 1:06 p.m.

Fire Supt. Arnel Abella, district fire marshal of Lapu-Lapu City, said that according to their investigation, the vessel dropped anchor at Marigondon Wharf but went adrift a few meters away when Tropical Depression Verbena crossed Cebu.

As the incident happened at about the same time the tide was low, firefighters were able to get near the yacht.

In an initial investigation, the firemen established that the fire started with the yacht's lithium battery.

Damage reached approximately P900,000.

No  casualty was reported, no one was reported injured.

As of this writing, GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak is yet to get the side of the owner of the yacht.

On the other hand, Abella raised the significance of a fire boat to respond to similar incidents.
