Over 200 passengers were stranded at the Cebu City port on Friday, December 5, 2025.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) suspended voyages of marine vessels because of Tropical Depression (TD) Wilma, said Captain Jerome Lozada, commander of Coast Guard Central Cebu.

Travelers bound for various destinations sought temporary shelter in the gymnasium of Barangay Tinago.

Other passengers were accommodated at the fourth floor of the barangay hall of Tinago.

The stranded individuals are grateful of the temporary accommodation. However, they express worry over uncertainty, as Wilma decelerates and may linger over the Visayas, citing the money they have will not be enough to pay for food in the next days.

Based on PCG list, at least 105 stranded passengers are at the temporary shelter, as of this writing.

Barangay Tinago Chairman Boyet Arciaga has assured that the stranded passengers are taken care of.

Meanwhile, based on the record of the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) of Cebu City, the number rose to 211.

The DSWS, according to its head, Portia Basmayor, has coordinated with DSWD Regional Office for food to the stranded passengers, until the trip suspension is lifted.

On the other hand, the entire Province of Cebu is on Blue Alert status in preparation for the possible impact of TD Wilma, according to Dennis Francis Pastor, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Disaster response teams focus tightly their monitoring on areas with waterways.
