The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced of a 12-hour power interruption in areas of Iloilo City on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
The power outage is set from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Expected to be affected by the power outage are areas under Mobile Feeders 2 and 3, Megaworld Feeders 4 and 5 of MORE Power, including portions of nine (9) barangays in Jaro District and portion of seven (7) barangays in Mandurriao District.
A few other areas in the city will experience a 2-hour to 4-hour brownout.
“This is for scheduled maintenance and upgrading works because this is in preparation as well for the upcoming December Christmas holiday season,” said Reagahn Alcantara, lead specialist of the Public Relations Department of NGCP Western Visayas.
Alcantara assured of sufficient power supply for the holiday season despite a Yellow Alert status over the Visayas Grid, or thin power reserve.
“Wala naman tayong nakikitang pagkulang. Although once in a while, may namamataan tayong alerts. If you recall, mga Yellow alerts, that was more of isolated cases,” Alcantara added.
NGCP has urged the public to save energy during the holiday season.
A consumer, Diana Vipinosa, agrees to the call. According to her, you do not just save power, you also avoid the possibility of fire incidents.
“Bago kami lumabas, ang mga naka-plug na electric fan at kung ano pa riyang appliances, ina-unplug na dahil natatakot kaming magkasunog,” Vipinosa said.
However, Joji Prio, another consumer, worries over the length of the power interruption.
“Ang 12 oras na brownout mahaba na yan para sa mga residente, magkakaproblema tayo niyan kasi ang kuryente kailangan sa lahat na araw,” Prio pointed out.
Meanwhile, a two-hour power interruption is set on December 9, Tuesday, from 10 p.m. to midnight, and another on December 11, Thursday, in a few areas of Aklan, Antique, and Capiz.
