The son of a jeepney driver in Davao City who passed the November 2025 Civil Engineers Licensure Exam was hired by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) after his father went viral online for offering free rides to celebrate his success.
Edwin Recososa, a jeepney driver in Davao City for 15 years, went viral on social media after he offered free rides for a day after his son passed the exam.
Mao na bisan ingon ani nga pamaagi, naka-kuan pud nga malipay sila,” Recososa said.
Recososa’s son, Dave, the eldest of four siblings, did not expect that his father’s simple act of kindness would pave the way for a career.
Dave thanked his family for their support.
On Thursday, December 4, 2025, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon personally informed Dave that the agency had hired him. He will report to the DPWH-Davao (DPWH-11) office.
Wala ko nag-expect nga mag-start dayon ko as soon as possible karong January,” Dave added.
Dizon also lauded Edwin for his dedication and love for his son.
“Dun mo makikita talaga yung pagmamahal ng isang tatay at yung pride ng isang tatay na yung kanyang anak na pinaghirapan niyang mag-aral ay nakapagtapos… engineering pa man din,” Dizon said.
Edwin reminded his son to always remain honest and committed in his work.
