A total of 1,368 passengers were stranded at ports in Western Visayas because of “Wilma,” formerly a tropical depression.

Bernardo Belegorio from Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental said he shelled out extra money for accommodation so he can sleep well.

“Wala tayong magawa. Hintay pa rin kami. Maghahanap kami mamaya kung saan matutulog,” Belegorio said.

Other passengers were stranded at the fastcraft terminal in Iloilo.

Jeffrey Daguman said he was set to travel last Friday, December 5.

“Ang hirap wala kasing notice. On the spot, nagsabi na walang barko,” Daguman said.

Cargo trucks queued up toward Dumangas Port morning on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

According to Coast Guard Iloilo Station, at least 501 rolling cargoes were stranded at ports in Western Visayas.

Henry Quintadcan, a driver, said that he and his companions were stranded since Thursday, December 4, 2025. He said they had a hard time sleeping and cooking their meals.

“Doon lang kami sa tabi. Bumibili lang kami ng isda. Maraming lamok dito,” Quintadcan said.

At 11 a.m. on December 7, the cancellation of voyages was lifted after storm signals were also lifted, as formerly “Wilma” weakened back into a Low Pressure Area (LPA) which lessened the impact of the tropical cyclone in the region. Only a little over 500 individuals were affected.

“Sa ngayon nakabalik na ang ating affected population particularly sa Iloilo, Dumangas at Iloilo City and then sa Malay, Aklan,” said Atty. Melissa Banias, chief of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, better weather condition is expected throughout the week. However, about two tropical cyclones are expected before the year ends.

“Hopefully, mag-improve na ang ating weather condition dito sa Western Visayas. As of now, wala naman tayong nakikitang any weather disturbance,” Charlie Depra, PAGASA Iloilo weather observer, said.

In Bacolod City, over 40 passengers were also stranded as then Tropical Depression Wilma crossed areas in the Visayas.

The stranded passengers sought temporary shelter at an evacuation center in Barangay 16.

They were able to pursue their voyages by afternoon on December 7.
