Four people, including a one-year-old girl, were killed in a road crash involving a tanker truck and a bao-bao tricycle in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental over the weekend.

Based on investigation, the truck reportedly lost its brakes while traveling downhill in Upper Sta. Ana and crashed into the tricycle.

Because of the impact, the truck overturned while the tricycle fell into a ravine.

“Ang vehicle 1 gikan siya sa Brgy. Sta. Ines, Malitbog Bukidnon ang fuel tanker ug ang Bao-Bao gikan siya sa Brgy. Sta. Ana, Tagoloan, pag-abot sa place of incident matud pa sa report sa Tagoloan MPS nga nawad-an sa brake ang tanker resulta nga iyang nabundol ang bajaj,” Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Capt. Geraldine Botanas, said.

The five people on board the tricycle and the truck driver and his helper were brought to a hospital.

However, the truck driver and the three passengers of the tricycle, including the one-year-old girl, died after a few hours.

“Usa na adto ang driver sa fuel tanker kato dayon pasahero sa bao-bao nga tulo kabuok. Ang bata is 1-year old babae na bata uban pud niya katong babae si Jane nga 34-years old ug Silvestra nga 61 years old,” Botanas added.

The truck driver’s helper, the tricycle driver, and the three-year-old sibling of the one-year-old girl are now safe, as of this writing.

Police said the company that owns the truck and the families of the victims who died have reportedly reached an initial agreement.

Authorities reminded the public anew to ensure that vehicles, including their drivers, are in good condition to prevent accidents.
