Supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte launched a signature campaign in Cagayan de Oro City as part of a nationwide movement to urge the Supreme Court (SC) to act on the petitions filed by the Duterte family in connection with his arrest and transfer to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands last March 2025.
The campaign dubbed as “Tay Kami Naman” aims to gather signatures and public support to urge SC to issue a decision on the petitions related to his arrest and the move to surrender him to the ICC.
The initiative is led by Duterte’s close ally, Councilor Joyleen Balaba, who believes that surrendering the former president to the ICC is unconstitutional.
“Nakabutang sa Rome Statute nga before dad-on ang supposedly ang naay kaso sa ICC, i-determine usa sa court of the said country dili na ba siya ga- function, dili na ba effective ang judicial system sa maong country, busa siya dad-on didto sa ICC,” Balaba said.
Balaba added that those who affixed their signatures were required to provide identification cards to ensure authenticity once the documents reach the high court.
“Aron ma-appreciate sa Supreme Court ang authenticity ug legitimacy sa mga signatures nga i-submit sa ilaha through the lawyers of the family of the Duterte,” Balaba said.
The signature campaign was reportedly not held only in Cagayan de Oro City. Supporters across the country and even Filipinos abroad are also making the same efforts.
Supporters aim to gather more than one million signatures before submitting the appeal to the SC before the end of December 2025.
Balaba has posted on her Facebook page the schedule of the mobile signature campaign.
