A CCTV video went viral as it shows a man beating a dog to death in Barangay Saclit, Sadanga, Mountain Province. It drew public outrage and calls for justice for the animal named “Axle.”
The footage, captured by a camera nearby, shows a man approaching Axle, an American Bully known in the area, while holding a wooden plank. Seconds later, he struck the dog repeatedly. Axle managed to run, but the man chased and continued hitting him until he died.
The video spread across social media quickly, with many users demanding accountability for the violent act.
Sadanga Mayor Robert Wanawan condemned the killing and explained that cultural beliefs may have influenced the suspect’s actions.
“May belief kasi kami na pagka (inihian) ka ng aso, may malas o kamatayan, ‘yun ang belief. Sa galit niya siguro, nagawa ‘yun sa harap ng mga tao,” the mayor said.
Authorities have filed the appropriate charges against the suspect. The mayor also clarified misinformation circulating online, saying the man is not a municipal councilor but an LGU driver who delivered relief goods to the barangay.
Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) also condemned the incident and urged the local government to act swiftly to prevent similar cases of animal cruelty.
Mayor Wanawan said the municipal council is preparing a resolution addressing such acts.
“‘Yung kapulisan natin, nag-file na ng case. Ngayon, nagpagawa ako ng resolution sa SB ngayon para anuhin (aksyunan) ‘yung mga ganoong klase ng aksyon,” he added.
GMA Regional TV continues to reach out to Axle’s owner for comment.
