A 24-year-old woman was bashed to death reportedly by her former boyfriend.

The 23-year-old suspect bashed the woman’s head with a hammer and stabbed her several times allegedly in front of her six-year-old child in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

The crime took place past 2 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

The suspect fled but surrendered later to the authorities.

The suspect said that they were supposed to mark their anniversary as a couple evening on December 10, 2025. He said he brought flowers and chocolates.

However, the victim reportedly threw away the flowers and chocolates, and said that she already has a new boyfriend.

The suspect added that it was the woman who first attempted to stab him. He showed small wounds he sustained on his hand.

Further, he said that he grappled for the knife and stabbed the woman instead. He took a hammer and bashed the woman on the head. He ended up apologizing for his wrongdoing.

The woman’s landlady, identified as Filotea Paquiding, said that the victim broke up with the suspect because of constant bickering over the woman’s lovechild which the suspect dislikes apparently.

The woman chose her child over their romantic relationship which got the ire of the suspect.

The child is set to undergo psychosocial intervention, or debriefing, after witnessing the brutal death of the mother.

Police personnel led by Major Eric Gingoyon, chief of Cebu City Police Station 4, recovered the hammer and knife used in perpetrating the crime.

The suspect is set to face charges for murder.
