Two students died after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a parked vehicle in Barangay Barra, Opol, Misamis Oriental on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
Police said the fatalities, 21 and 19 years old, were residents of San Fernando, Bukidnon and Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City, respectively.
Based on investigation, the motorcycle was reportedly traveling at high speed toward Iligan City on the rightmost outer lane while the driver of the sports utility vehicle parked on the shoulder lane to buy fruits by the road.
Upon reaching the place of the incident, the motorcycle allegedly crashed head-on into the vehicle, causing the driver and his companion to fall.
“Kining motorsiklo allegedly kusog ang dagan niini coming from Cagayan de Oro ug ang iyang direksyon is paingon sa Iligan City iyang gi baybay ang tuo nga bahin sa dalan ang kining Toyota fortuner naka park sa tuo nga bahin sa dalan nga baliktad iyang posisyon,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
The students sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
Authorities said the families of the students and the driver of the SUV have reportedly reached an agreement.
“Dako nga butang nga we maintain speed limit sa pag drive sa mga sakyanan labi na kining mga motorsiklo nga dali ra ma semplang,” Navarro added.
