The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Dagupan City has intensified its public safety campaign to prevent firecracker-related injuries and incidents as residents prepare to welcome 2026.
BFP personnel have been making rounds through a public address system under Oplan Iwas-Paputok, reminding communities to stay cautious when using firecrackers. The local fire bureau aims for zero casualty and zero fire incident this year.
City Fire Marshal F/CINSP. Jun Eland Wanawan said their teams are conducting thorough safety checks in areas where large crowds gather.
“Nagko-conduct din tayo actually ng inspection sa lahat ng mga places of convergence ng mga tao dito like mga bus terminal,” Wanawan said.
Authorities have also begun coordinating early with licensed firecracker vendors in the city. Inspections will focus on the type, quantity, and documentation of firecrackers transported from other areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
The BFP reminded residents that while firecrackers are not banned totally, safety must always come first.
“At least ay bumili tayo doon sa mga reputable na nagbebenta ng paputok,” Wanawan added.
Some Dagupan residents say they plan to avoid firecrackers altogether this year for safety reasons.
“Torotot na lang kasi marami sa amin ang torotot. Ok na ‘yun na lang,” Layola Boton, a resident, said.
Barangay officials have also joined the monitoring effort. In Barangay Lucao, authorities are keeping a close watch on illegal devices.
“Maraming nahuhuli na ‘yung mga boga. Binabawalan namin lalo na ngayon kasi may kasama kaming pulis,” Oscar Quinto, deputy watchman, said.
