A man in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental was arrested on Thursday, December 11, 2025, for allegedly beating his two sons to death with a hammer.
Police said the victims, 20 and 21 years old, were sleeping on the floor when their father allegedly struck them with the hammer. They sustained injuries in the head.
They were reportedly suffering from a mental health condition.
“Kining duha kabuok niya ka mga anak nangatulog sa salog anaa sulod sa ilang panimalay ug didto iya kining gibunalan sa martilyo sa ulo nga bahin and kini miresulta sa pagkamatay sa maong duha indibidwal,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
The suspect was arrested during hot pursuit at a flyover where he reportedly appeared to have attempted to jump.
PHYSICAL ABUSE?
According to the suspect’s brother, Mark Cleoferd Tutor, the suspect allegedly had long been abusing his children and wife physically, which may have caused the victims to develop mental health problems.
Tutor said he also reportedly experienced getting beaten by the suspect when he was young, each time the suspect would get drunk.
The family is determined to press parricide charges against the suspect.
“Kanang emotionally and financially challenged gyud mi karon kay duha pud kabuok baya na. Actually, ang mga patayng lawas didto sa (purinarya) wala’y kabulak-bulak man gani gyud,” Tutor said.
The family is also appealing for help for burial expenses.
